Kidney Failure Treatment
Kidney failure occurs when your kidneys lose the ability to sufficiently filter waste from your blood.Your body becomes overloaded with toxins if your kidneys can’t do their regular job. This can lead to kidney failure, which can be life-threatening if left untreated.
There are two types of Kidney Failure
- Acute Kidney Failure, your kidneys still have a chance to regain their function. In Chronic Kidney Failure, both kidneys have been severely damaged and scarred thus recovery of normal kidney function is no longer expected.
- Chronic Kidney Failure is also called End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), the 5th and most severe stage of chronic kidney disease. People with ESRD will require renal replacement therapy--this treatment takes over the normal blood-filtering function of the kidneys.
Kidney Failure Stages
- Stage 1 – Slight kidney disease.
- Stage 2 – Mild decrease in kidney function.
- Stage 3 – Moderate decrease in kidney function.
- Stage 4 – Severe decrease in kidney function.
- Stage 5 – End-stage renal disease.
There are three types of Kidney Failure Treatment: Hemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis and Kidney Transplant.
